LCL (Less than Container Load)

LCL is a shipping method in which goods from different customers are consolidated into a single container. This means that if your shipment is not large enough to fill an entire container, you only pay for the space your goods occupy.

Advantages of LCL:

• Cost-effective: you only pay for the space you use.
• Flexibility: you can ship smaller consignments without having to wait until you have enough goods to fill an entire container.

Disadvantages of LCL:

• Longer transit time: because the container must be filled with goods from various customers, it may take longer for your shipment to arrive at its destination.

• Higher risk of damage: because your shipment is collected by truck, transshipped into the container at the co-loader’s warehouse, unloaded again in the country of destination, and delivered via truck, there is a higher risk of damage. Additionally, LCL shipments are always assumed to be stackable (unless otherwise stated at the time of booking), meaning your shipment will be stacked with other consignments.

FCL (Full Container Load)

FCL is a shipping method where you use an entire container for your shipment. This is the best option if you are shipping a large volume of goods.

Advantages of FCL:

• Speed: your shipment can be loaded immediately and transported to its destination without delays.
• Security: because you are responsible for the entire transport of the container, you have more control over the security of your goods.

Disadvantages of FCL:

• Higher costs: using an entire container can be expensive if you do not have enough goods to fill the space.
